Element: Space

Gemstone: Azurite

Symbol: The symbol of the Throat Chakra consists of a 16-petalled lotus flower surrounding an inverted triangle with a circle within. This represents spiritual growth and purifying the body, mind, and spirit.

Location: The Visuddha Chakra is located at the base of the throat, coinciding with the thyroid gland. This chakra is often associated with our ability to communicate, express ourselves and speak our truth. It is associated with inspiration, healthy expression, faith, and the ability to communicate well. As one would expect, this chakra is connected to our ability to communicate verbally.

Symptoms of a blocked/imbalanced Throat Chakra:

Voice and throat problems and any problems with everything surrounding that area, such as the teeth, gums, and mouth, can indicate a blockage. Blocks or misalignment can also be seen through dominating conversations, gossiping, speaking without thinking, timidity, quietness, a feeling of weakness, struggling with keeping secrets or not being able to express yourself clearly or speaking our minds. Physical symptoms of a blocked throat chakra include pain in the neck, sore throats, stuttering or mouth ulcers. Poor communication, such as a bad interview or argument, can shift the throat chakra.

Signs of a balanced Throat Chakra:

When in alignment, you will speak and listen with compassion and feel confident when you communicate because you know you are being true to yourself with your words. When this chakra is balanced, it enables creativity, positive self-expression, constructive communication, and a sense of satisfaction. When the throat chakra is in perfect balance, your communication with others will be effective and efficient.

Mantra: The seed mantra (beej mantra) of Vishuddha Chakra is ‘Ham’.

Yoga poses for Throat Chakra balance: Throat Chakra is stimulated in poses like Shoulderstand (Sarvangasana) and Plough Pose (Halasana).
